Joe Dator is a cartoonist/writer from New York City. He describes his creative process as being similar to finding an avocado amongst the tomatoes at the supermarket; "It almost never happens, but when it does the feeling is undeniably sexual".
He was born in The Bronx, the home of such comedy greats as Carl Reiner, Robert Klein, and Colin Powell.
In fact, The Bronx, NY has been the birthplace of some of the most talented, creative and electrifying artists of our time. Oh, and Jennifer Lopez, too.
Joe Dator spent his formative years in the 1970s, which were sometimes called "The Me Decade", but can more accurately be labelled "The Decade When They Came Out With The Most Retarded Stuff Ever".
It was growing up in the 70s that began Joe Dator's deep seated and lifelong love affair with crap.
As a cartoonist his work has appeared in publications too numerous to mention, including The New Yorker, Entertainment Weekly, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and E-Mail.This.Book!, a 1996 collection of computer cartoons so wildly outdated now that even a dot matrix printer wouldn't laugh. You can buy it at Amazon.com - for less than a dollar (free with purchase of a Segway).
In 2000 he contributed a number of sketches to Britain's acclaimed "Aaagh! It's The Mr Hell Show!". Last year the show won a Gemini award (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmy) for best animated series. He also served as a writer/producer on Channel Four's one-off special "So Many Santas"
In 2001 he created WEBNETNEWSLINK©, correctly surmising that two things the world needed more of were parody news and unsolicited email.
In 2005 he wrote, directed and starred in "Citizen Candy Man", a short mockumentary that imagines the characters from the 1971 cult classic "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" as they might appear today. See the official site here.
Since July 2005 he has been working on this page. He hopes to finish it by
